Being pulled over for a DWI can be a very frightening experience. Its the middle of the night and you are just scared as to what is going to happen next. You need to know what is going to happen in the upcoming hours.
When the officer places you under arrest, he will then read you your miranda rights. You should pay close attention, so that you completely understand what the officer is saying. The officer will then take you into the jail house where you will go through all of the process of booking. Booking will include getting your fingerprints, height, weight, and photographs to put in your file.
The police officer will then give you the time for a phone call. This is usually the time when you need to call a friend of a family to find a lawyer for you to counsel with about your case.
Once you have spoken with your lawyer, you will probably need to see a judge depending on what time of the night you are arrested. If you are arrested past a certain time of the night you risk being stuck in jail until sometime into the next day. If you are a first time offender, you might have the option to get a hobby release from the judge.
Once you have gotten out of jail, the judge will assign you a court date to go over all of the details of your case as well as to make a ruling on your punishment. This court date will not take place until a few weeks after you have been arrested.
